Medicare is the federal health insurance program for people who are 65 or older, younger people with certain disabilities and people with End-Stage Renal Disease. It has two parts, Part A-Hospital Insurance and Part B-Medical Insurance. Combined Parts A & B are called Original Medicare. For a more in-depth explanation please watch the attached video.

Original Medicare includes Medicare Part A (Hospital Insurance) and Part B (Medical Insurance). It does not include Prescription Drugs. Prescription Drug Coverage is available through a stand-alone Part D Prescription Drug Plan (PDP). Beneficiaries can see any doctor or hospital in the United States that accepts Medicare. Beneficiaries may add supplemental coverage through a former employer of available or a Medicare Supplement Insurance (Medigap) to help pay for the 20% coinsurance and other out-of-pocket expenses.

Medicare Part C is also known as a Medicare Advantage (MA) Plan. Medicare contracts with approved private companies to provide an "all in one" alternative to Original Medicare. Medicare Advantage plans combine Medicare Part A (Hospital Insurance) and Medicare Part B ( Medical Insurance) and oftentimes a Part D Prescription Drug Plan. MA Plans must cover all Medicare Services. Many MA Plans also offer extra dental, vision and hearing coverage as well as added value items such as fitness benefits.
Medicare Part D is a Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug Plan (PDP). When combined with a Part C Medicare Advantage Plan it is referred to as a MA-PD. Part D PDPs can be purchased as a stand-alone drug plan to compliment Original Medicare. For more information see the attached video link.
