Q. What is Original Medicare?
A. Original Medicare includes Medicare Part A (Hospital Insurance) and Part B (Medical Insurance). It does not include Prescription Drugs. Prescription Drug Coverage is available through a stand-alone Part D Prescription Drug Plan (PDP). Beneficiaries can see any doctor or hospital in the United States that accepts Medicare. Beneficiaries may add supplemental coverage through a former employer of available or a Medicare Supplement Insurance (Medigap) to help pay for the 20% coinsurance and other out-of-pocket expenses.
Q. What is Medicare Part A?
A. Medicare Part A (Hospital Insurance) covers in-patient hospital stays, care in a skilled nursing facility, hospice care and some home healthcare. Most people don't pay a monthly premium for Part if they (or their spouse) paid Medicare taxes for a certain amount of time.
Q. What is Medicare Part B?
A. Medicare Part B covers certain doctors services, outpatient care, medical supplies and preventive services. The Standard Part B monthly premium is currently $170.10. An Income Related Monthly Adjustment Amount (IRMAA) may apply to people with an income above a certain modified adjusted gross income amount as reported on their IRS tax return.

Q. What is Medicare Part C?
A. Medicare Part C is also known as a Medicare Advantage (MA) Plan. Medicare contracts with approved private companies to provide an "all in one" alternative to Original Medicare. Medicare Advantage plans combine Medicare Part A (Hospital Insurance) and Medicare Part B ( Medical Insurance) and oftentimes a Part D Prescription Drug Plan. MA Plans must cover all Medicare Services. Many MA Plans also offer extra dental, vision and hearing coverage as well as added value items such as fitness benefits.
Q. What is Medicare Part D?
A. Medicare Part D is a Prescription Drug Plan (PDP). It can be purchased as a stand alone complimenting Original Medicare. Many Medicare Advantage Plans include a Part D benefit.
Q. Will I be penalized if I don't enroll in Part D Prescription Drug Plan?
A. Yes. If you do not have creditable drug coverage and are eligible to enroll in Part D you will be penalized. See the attached video link for more detailed information.
Q. What is a Medicare Supplement (Medigap) Plan?
A. A Medicare Supplement Plan is private insurance that covers the costs that Original Medicare does not.
